Haxhimakulle is a traditional Albanian sweet associated with northern Albania and the city of Shkodër. The appearance of haxhimakulle is distinctive; it is a round or elongated pastry with a smooth or slightly cracked surface and a small indentation in the center. After baking, haxhimakulle is soaked in sugar syrup.

The dessert is truly very sweet, and to Czechs, its taste and texture may resemble a giant sponge cake soaked in sweet syrup.

I tasted haxhimakulle at the small Arishta Bakery (see Where to Eat in Albania) right in the city of Shkodër; one piece cost 100 ALL (1 EUR).
Bon appétit!
