National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa

The National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa is one of the largest and most significant museums of its kind in Poland. Its primary goal is to document, preserve, and present the rich history of agriculture and rural life in Poland. It is located in the village of Szreniawa, less than 20 km from the Polish city of Poznań.

The museum was founded in 1964 and has since grown into an extensive complex that includes not only the main building but also several additional structures, outdoor exhibits, and a farm with live animals. The museum covers more than 50 hectares, allowing visitors to explore a wide range of exhibits and interactive displays.

🇵🇱 Tip: After a great Polish food in Poznań, go on one of the many city tours. It is worth it!

One of the museum’s main attractions is its extensive collection of agricultural machines and tools. Visitors can see historical plows, mowers, tractors, and other farming equipment used throughout various periods of Polish history. These exhibits provide fascinating insights into technological advancements in agriculture and show how farming techniques have evolved and improved over the years.

In addition to agricultural machinery, the museum also offers exhibits focused on various aspects of rural life and culture. Visitors can explore sections of traditional rural houses, furnished with authentic furniture and objects that illustrate everyday life in the Polish countryside. For instance, you can explore a fully equipped kitchen where traditional Polish meals were prepared.

Another interesting feature of the museum is its collection of agricultural crops and plants. Visitors can see how these crops are grown and processed, and learn more about their significance for Polish agriculture and the economy. Special attention is, of course, given to potatoes. The museum also includes an extensive farm with live animals.

The museum also hosts a variety of special events and programs designed to educate and entertain visitors of all ages. These events include traditional agricultural festivals, workshops, and lectures on various agricultural topics. These events provide visitors with the opportunity to learn new skills, try out traditional farming techniques, and deepen their understanding of the history and culture of the Polish countryside.

The indoor exhibits are very well air-conditioned, so during the hot summer (which I experienced in Poznań), the National Museum of Agriculture can be a great place to escape the scorching city heat. At the end, visitors are treated to a bonus: the Szreniawa microbrewery with its own store and a garden seating area overlooking the outdoor exhibit of agricultural aircraft. If you’re not very familiar with Polish beer, try their Baltic Porter, but you certainly won’t be disappointed by other types of beers either (I personally indulged in their Belgian Blond and wheat beer on site).

If you love museums and food, the National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa is definitely worth exploring. The museum is easily accessible by car or direct train connection from Poznań. The entrance fee is 20 PLN (4.80 EUR), which can be purchased on site.

Enjoy your visit!
