Romanian pastry called palanet is similar to the Czech stuffed bun, but the filling is placed into the pastry before baking. Palanet is most often baked in round molds, but you can also come across a square version.
Palanet is a suitable pastry for travel, as the filling is placed in the middle of the dough sheet, and the individual dough tips perfectly lock the filling inside.
The choice of fillings is wide, most often you can find cheese, curd, ham, cabbage, or potatoes inside. It is a tasty, hearty, and yet inexpensive snack.
You can find Palanet in specialized bakeries, I tasted it in the Romanian town of Cluj. One portion costs 0.60 – 0.80 EUR depending on the type of filling.
