Automat Matuška is one of the most interesting establishments on the Prague beer scene, having opened its doors only in 2019. It offers uncompromising quality beer from its own microbrewery and food inspired by American BBQ.

Beers from Matuška are among my favorites (along with Zíchovec beers). That’s why I also like the place that Adam Matuška opened in Prague’s Dejvice, just a stone’s throw from the Hradčanská metro station.
The establishment operates on a self-service basis; you order, pay for, and carry your beer to the table yourself.

There are always several Matuška beers on tap, and during my last visit, I was lucky enough to find the non-alcoholic beer Crystus from the Clock brewery on tap. I consider it to be the best non-alcoholic beer in the Czech Republic.
Around five o’clock, a wooden barrel of beer is tapped at Automat Matuška.

In addition to its ground floor and outdoor garden, the establishment also features a small nanobrewery in a spacious cellar. If you like, you can rent it with friends and try brewing a small batch of beer.

To go with the excellent beer, you can also enjoy the local “Dejvice BBQ.” Since we only wanted something small and there were three of us, we chose the popular “combo for 2” for 585 CZK (23.40 EUR). It included beef brisket, pork belly, pulled pork, meatloaf, cheddar sausage, BBQ beans, coleslaw, and unlimited bread.
The BBQ at Automat Matuška isn’t bad, but unfortunately, it won’t blow your mind. There are other BBQ specialists in Prague (for example, Big Smokers).

The price for a large beer typically ranges between 75 CZK and 100 CZK (3 – 4 EUR), which isn’t cheap. However, considering the quality you get, I still think it’s a reasonable price.

Automat Matuška does not take reservations and sometimes it gets really unpleasantly crowded (especially when Prague’s Sparta is playing at the nearby stadium). But the place is large enough, and you will always find a spot.
If you haven’t been to Automat yet, or if you don’t know Matuška beers at all, try to change that and stop by the Dejvice Automat. Maybe you’ll start coming back regularly like I do.
Cheers, and drink responsibly!
