Čep & Pec Restaurant, Prague: A Craft Brewery Combined with a Bakery

Čep & Pec is a pub-café, at least that’s how it is described by its operators. They bake excellent bread here and serve beer on tap from their own craft brewery. The establishment was founded in 2021 as a base for presenting beers from the Four Elements flying brewery.

In the beer menu, you’ll find not only craft beers from their own brewery but also beer novelties from abroad and a wide selection of non-alcoholic beers. The gastronomic offer includes fresh baked goods and time-tested Czech pub delicacies, such as pickled cheese or pickled sausages.

And it was precisely for these classic pub snacks (and the local beer) that I set out this time with my university friends.

Pickled cheese is probably one of the most famous and popular snacks served in Czech pubs. The variant at Čep & Pec was pleasantly matured, yet the cheese still held its shape and didn’t melt. The oil contained a reasonable amount of spices, onions, and even a red chili pepper. The bread was nicely soft with a crispy crust.

Similarly, the pickled sausage (“utopenci”) was well-matured, and the sausage was accompanied by plenty of onions. The fried cheese in a bun is served here with tartar sauce, which they make themselves, along with red cabbage. The bun was once again clearly freshly baked on-site, and it was beautifully crispy. The combination of tartar sauce and red cabbage paired well with the cheese.

The beer from the local brewery has a kick, some types of beer are highly drinkable. The prices are similar to those in other small craft breweries: a small 0.2 l beer costs between 40–50 CZK (1.60–2 EUR), while a large 0.4 l beer starts at 70 CZK (2.80 EUR).

The interiors have been partially preserved in their original style, with a touch of punk and Nusle hipster vibes (oh!). The service is quick, and card payment is, of course, available.
