Kuchyň Restaurant, Prague (3): Czech Cuisine with a View of Prague

As a Prague local, I don’t venture to the area around Prague Castle very often—crowds of tourists don’t appeal to me. But whenever I do go, Kuchyň restaurant is always one of my regular stops. It’s still true that if I had to take my guests from abroad to just one place, it would be here.

This place has something you won’t find in other parts of the city: a location right next to one of Prague’s main landmarks and an incredible view from the terrace. Last but not least, Kuchyň restaurant attracts with its selection of Czech dishes prepared with a modern and high-quality touch.

On my last visit, I finally tried their famous dill sauce and, as a starter, I ordered the marinated carp with citrus.

Carp is a staple in Czech cuisine, and it’s a pity that most Czechs have it only at Christmas, fried, with potato salad. At Kuchyň restaurant, the citrus marinade gives the carp a light and modern twist. The fish is delicate, without the typical muddy flavor. Marinated carp with citrus as a starter cost 265 CZK (10.60 EUR).

Dill sauce is a nostalgic dish for many Czechs. I hated it as a child, but as an adult, I love it. At Kuchyň, they make the dill sauce delicate, creamy, and a bit thinner. Instead of a poached egg, you can also choose (for a higher price) a version with beef. Dill sauce with an egg as a main course cost 365 CZK (14.60 EUR).

There was a “recent” renovation at Kuchyň, and now the walls are decorated with tiles featuring culinary motifs. For me, though, it’s still much nicer—if the weather allows—to sit on the terrace and enjoy the breathtaking view of Prague.

Where else can you enjoy Czech food or beer with such a view?

Bon appétit!
