Where to go for St. Martin’s goose in Prague (2023)

Roasted goose with cabbage and dumplings on St. Martin’s Day is one of the most beloved Czech gastronomic traditions. Here are my tips for great Prague restaurants that will have goose dishes on the menu, including prices, links to the website, and even direct links to the St. Martin’s menu (for restaurants that have published this menu). Reservations for this event are usually essential.

Where would I go for St. Martin’s goose in Prague? Without hesitation, I would head to Výčep restaurant, and for a several-hour feast, I would go for a St. Martin’s brunch at Mlýnec. The Kamin restaurant with live music is also an attraction.

Bon appetit!

Výčep Restaurant

Top Czech cuisine in a modern interpretation, that’s Výčep restaurant, currently my favorite restaurant in Prague. The menu will certainly include goose leg, “kaldoun” soup, goose liver, and instead of the iconic cream puff pastry (their “větrník” is a must), a Wallachian delicacy called “frgál” will be served. Výčep restaurant is listed in the Czech Michelin Guide. My number 1 choice for St. Martin’s feasting.

Mlýnec Restaurant

Na Kopci Restaurant

Great Czech and French cuisine, that is Na Kopci restaurant. I was there recently for the occasion of the 15th-anniversary celebration of its founding, and the food was still excellent. Kastrol Restaurant

Kastrol is a restaurant focused on rural Czech cuisine. For St. Martin’s Day, they have prepared an extensive menu, which is available until November 19, unlike other restaurants. So, if you miss the St. Martin’s goose on November 11, here’s your chance to enjoy it later.

Ansámbl Bistro

Ansámbl bistro, a short distance from the busy Krymská Street, is in my opinion still somewhat undiscovered, but chef Martin Charvát, with experience from Michelin-starred restaurants, showcases top-notch work. As part of a special event, guests can choose from a special St. Martin’s menu according to their taste.

Kamin Restaurant

Kamin restaurant is my discovery of the year 2023. A short distance from Grébovka Park, two brothers (with their parents) are making a big splash on the plate. Their experience from Michelin-starred restaurants is evident, and as a new establishment, the prices are more reasonable.
