Sorrento is definitely among the areas that have something to offer tourists. Although I had rather low expectations, I ended up being thrilled with it. However, in my opinion, tourism negatively affects the level of restaurants in the city center, which live solely off tourists. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good even in the center. This time, we went off the main tourist routes to taste local specialties and enjoy a culinary experience at the trattoria Torna a Surriento.
For starters, we chose a selection of appetizers – meatballs with Neapolitan ragù, ricotta, and friarielli. Friarielli is a vegetable similar to young broccoli. The appetizer plate was complemented by marinated eggplant in oil. The taste of the eggplant was incredible. The appetizers were served with slices of toasted bread, all for 8 EUR. A great start.
We continued with gnocchi alla Sorrentina, which are homemade gnocchi with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, basil, and Parmesan (6 EUR), and local pasta scialatielli with salsiccia sausage, tomato sauce, eggplant, smoked mozzarella, basil, and Parmesan (8 EUR). Hearty, but absolutely delicious food.
We went to the trattoria Torna a Surriento for local specials and were not disappointed. I would gladly return here for the food. If I add the pleasant service and very reasonable prices, this place is definitely worth a little detour from the center of Sorrento.
