Where to Go for St. Martin’s Goose in Prague (2024)

Roast goose with cabbage and dumplings on St. Martin’s Day is one of the most popular Czech gastronomic traditions. Here are my tips for great Prague restaurants that will have goose dishes on the menu, including prices, website links, and direct links to the St. Martin’s menu (for restaurants that have already published it). Reservations for this event are usually a must.

Where would I go for St. Martin’s goose in Prague? Without hesitation, I would head to Výčep, and for a several-hour feast, to the St. Martin’s brunch at Mlýnec. Kamin restaurant with live music is also a tempting option.

Bon appétit!

Výčep Restaurant

Top-notch Czech cuisine in a modern interpretation, that’s Výčep, currently my favorite restaurant in Prague. The menu will, of course, include goose leg, kaldoun, liver, and instead of the iconic “větrník” (a Czech pastry), frgál and plum sorbet with slivovitz. Výčep Restaurant is listed on the Czech Michelin guide. My No. 1 choice for St. Martin’s feast.

Kamin Restaurant

Kamin Restaurant is my discovery of 2023. Two brothers (along with their parents) are doing an amazing job just a stone’s throw from Grébovka Park. Their experience from Michelin-starred restaurants is evident, and as a new establishment, the prices are more reasonable. Live music will not be missing in 2024 either! Reservation is absolutely essential.

Kuchyň Restaurant

Kuchyň restaurant has also prepared a goose feast. On the special menu available even before St. Martin’s Day, you’ll find goose leg and breast, pâté, and foie gras. Kuchyň is an obvious choice if you are in Prague as a tourist and want to dine near Prague Castle. On St. Martin’s Day itself, the menu will feature traditional dishes: kaldoun (goose soup), goose, cabbage, and dumplings. My mouth is watering already!

Dejvická 34 Restaurant

The St. Martin’s Day menu has also been prepared by restaurant Dejvická 34, naturally with a touch of Italian cuisine. The lunch menu features goose breast with truffle aroma, red cabbage purée, Dolcetto d’Alba wine sauce, potato gnocchi with pumpkin, and black truffle. As a starter, chicken liver pâté with foie gras is served, and the sweet finish is a strawberry panna cotta. If you’d like to enjoy goose in a lighter version without dumplings and love Italy, the St. Martin’s menu at Dejvická 34 is ideal for you.
