Karaköy Güllüoğlu: My Favorite Pastry Shop in Istanbul

The Istanbul pastry shop Karaköy Güllüoğlu is among my favorites. The Güllü family has been baking baklava since 1843, and the shop in Karaköy opened in 1949. It is very popular among locals. It focuses on classic Turkish confectionery, and they will also prepare excellent Turkish tea for you here.

The pastry shop operates on a self-service principle. Visitors choose the sweets they crave directly from the showcases and trays. The selection of various types of baklava, in particular, is incredibly wide. The price is listed for each sweet, with some being sold by weight. You then pay for everything at the register; card payment is possible. Given that the pastry shop is not in the historic center, prices are friendly and lower than, for example, in another historic pastry shop, Hafız Mustafa.
