Výčep Restaurant, Prague (2)

In my first article about the Výčep Restaurant, I labeled it as a “gem,” and after trying more dishes, I can only confirm that. Once again, I visited Výčep for their lunch menu.

Mushroom soup with egg, dill, pickled mushrooms and truffle oil

This time, the soup option was the Czech soup called “kulajda” (mushroom soup) with egg, dill, pickled mushrooms, and truffle oil for 125 CZK (approx. 5.30 EUR). Kulajda is one of my favorite soups, and this one from Výčep’s kitchen was fantastic. The mushroom flavor was strong, the soup had a pleasant sourness, and the truffle oil elevated the dish to another level.

Brynza gnocchi with sheep brynza cheese, smoked cracklings and crispy onion

Brynza gnocchi (called “halušky”) with sheep brynza cheese, smoked cracklings and crispy onion for 285 CZK (approx. 12.10 EUR). Simple, hearty, perfect dish.

Beef Bourguignon with mashed potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and pickled onions

Beef Bourguignon with mashed potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and pickled onions for 295 CZK (approx. 12.50 EUR). Traditional French dish, excellently executed, a delight not only on the plate but also on the taste buds. I love mashed potatoes, and although many people may consider it a simple dish, I think it can easily be ruined. This one was great. The beef melted in my mouth, the grilled carrot was a beautiful highlight on the plate. A perfect meal.

Strawberry cup with vanilla whipped cream

The dessert selection during lunchtime expanded beyond the classic cream puff called “větrník” to include a strawberry cup with vanilla whipped cream for 185 CZK (approx. 7.30 EUR). The freshly prepared whipped cream was dusted with lime zest, and at the bottom of the cup, there was a mound of strawberry ice cream topped with pickled strawberries and lemon balm. The “štramberské ucho” (a type of gingerbread) on top added a pleasant crunchy element.

Tesla television and live broadcast from Výčep kitchen
Tesla television and live broadcast from Výčep kitchen

Unlike my previous visits, I only noticed now the old Tesla television placed in the back of the restaurant. The TV allows you to watch a live broadcast from the serving counter, where individual dishes are being finalized and handed over to the service staff, who then bring them to the guests’ tables. A charming curiosity that I would sneak peeks at throughout the evening.

The Výčep Restaurant is included in the Czech Michelin Guide along with 25 other establishments.

Bon appetit!
