The Wine Bar Champagneria is a hidden treasure for lovers of champagne, cava, and other sparkling wines. Champagneria is a small stylish establishment halfway between Old Town Square and Národní třída. You can have a single glass or a whole bottle here. The bottles start at around 500 CZK (about 20 EUR) and offer a very good price/performance ratio.
The bar is not large and can often be overcrowded, so I recommend making a reservation in case of a planned visit. But the small space, along with the very pleasant, kind, and fast service, gives the bar a certain charm. Moreover, it is evident that the staff enjoys their work, which can be seen in small details like origami on the glass lid.
For the past few years, I have regularly stopped by Champagneria for Christmas mulled wine. They make it great here, incomparable to what you can buy at a stand at Christmas markets. Two deciliters of red wine mulled wine, served in a beautiful cut glass, cost 85 CZK (about 3.40 EUR). They will gladly give it to you to go in a cup as well.
As I mentioned earlier, Champagneria is a small establishment, so in individual rooms, you may come across refrigerated boxes with wine bottles or, conversely, gas heaters in opposite corners. The old-style furnishings and furniture may not suit everyone, but I have always found it appealing, along with the pleasant selection of music. Card payment is, of course, possible in the establishment, and you can communicate with the staff in English without any problems.
The entrance to the establishment is easy to overlook, located in one of the small side streets that seem to have come straight out of Jaroslav Foglar’s stories about Prague’s “Shades”. If you haven’t been to Champagneria yet, try stopping by on your way to the Christmas markets. The atmosphere inside will surprise you and convince you to return.
